Am
Date: 20th December 2025
Time: 6.30pm for a 7pm start – In person at the Birthplace OR watch on Zoom
Experience the magic of Dylan Thomas’s A Child’s Christmas in Wales in the very room that inspired it. While this beloved tale is performed in theatres, church halls, and schools around the world, there is only one place that truly captures its heart – the parlour of Dylan’s childhood home.
Adrian Metcalfe of the Lighthouse Theatre Company brings the story to life in this intimate setting, where imagination and memory intertwine. Picture the fat uncles dozing after Christmas dinner, snoring gently, while the thin aunts tiptoed about, sipping parsnip wine and getting delightfully tiddly – because, after all, “it was only once a year…”
Step into Dylan’s world and relive a time of snowbound streets, candlelit rooms, and youthful wonder – where he mused, “whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve, or twelve days and twelve nights when I was six…” Watch as Mrs Prothero’s famous turkey fire crackles to life and those mischievous cats cause chaos all over again.
Adding to the festive cheer, the Cwmdonkin Ukes ukulele band will perform a joyful selection of Christmas classics for you to sing along to. Christmas jumpers and festive outfits are warmly encouraged. There will be some festive nibbles for you to enjoy too!
This much-loved event sells out quickly each year. Book now to enjoy an unforgettable Christmas in the front parlour – the only place in the world where Dylan’s Christmas truly comes alive.
